problem with usb 7 port hub

I bought and installed a swann 7 port usb hub and connected to my pc (windows xp sp3). It all worked fine, but then I did a system resotre back one week, and now whenever I connect a portable device (a maxtor protable hard drive, card reader and some usb sticks) they are not recognised and do not appear in My Computer.

If I connect the devices directly to a usb port on the PC the they work properly however not if they connect to the usb hub.

It only effects devices that do not require installation disks that install drivers.

Can anyone help please?
