I just wanted to get everyones opinion. I have multiple computers with Windows XP home and pro. Windows Defender is installed on all of them. I have NEVER seen it do anything but take up RAM. its never caught anything malicious, ever. I am tired of installing windows updated for defender when its not doing anything. I really want to just uninstall it or take it out of startup at least.

Your opinions? :)

I'm been thinking about doing the same thing as on all my computers it hasn't caught anything either. I really think it's a program that talks back to M$ like Windows Genuine Advantage use to do before M$ got called out on it. I'll probably remove it, too, as I use other better, free programs which I have more control over.

I think you just practice smart computing and are not getting infected.

I have had had antivirus and good antispyware programs installed for over a year and it never caught anything because I never got infected.

Not true. I have Trend Micro Worry Free for business. It is anti spy/malware and antivirus. I have seen it catch things before. Realtime and on a manual scan. I can also scan my PC with Malware Bytes antimalware or SuperAntispyware and it will find stuff, even though its just cookies.

A scan with Defender never yields any infections.
