Optus has changed the default username and password on their Scientific Atlanta modems. I wanted to log into my modem to bridge 2 computers from it... They won't give me the username and password due to Optus policy.... Does anyone happen to know it in here? if optus won't give you the username/password then there's nothing we can do...you'll need to contact them to have them make the changes you want to make...it's their policy...you have to follow it

new question... still relating to the last.. If I purchased an optus approved modem ie Motorolla SB5100, could I log into that to bridge 2 computers from it?

you'd have to ask optus....depends on their policy....

what are you trying to achieve here? just having two computers hooked up to the same internet connection? if that's the case....go buy a router (i'd suggest linksys or netgear personally) and hook that to the modem then hook your computers to the router

That's exactly what I'm trying to do We tried to install a DLink router through the modem but the modem wouldn't allow it to function (Optus has put a lock on that too... smart buggers). My last resort is to get a surfboard modem (there's a list of compatable modems on Optus' website). Some may say that the last resort is to pay Optus to set up a network and fork out for a higher bill every month... But being poor students, it's not possible!

I'm afraid if Optus is going out of their way to stop you from sharing your Internet connection, dsenette is more than likely going to tell you we can't help.

However, I'm curious as to why they don't want you to setup a home network? Are they just greedy SOBs who want you to dish out extra $$$? It just seems strange to me; a home network wouldn't place any extra stress on their servers, since you'd still be capped by your bandwidth. I'm really not sure why they have gone out of their way to make things difficult.

Then again, I have always had a poor opinion of Optus -- if it were me, I'd be switching ISP's Let's see what dsenette has to say -- I'd be willing to help you out of sheer spite for greedy/stupid ISP's. But, unfortunately that will break G2G's ToU, so it's simply not going to happen

well here's the deal....if Optus has put restrictions on the line (bandwidth caps, only allowing one computer to connect)...then your networking equipment is irellevant....doesn't matter what modem you get...if they require you to pay extra per computer connected (not as uncommon as you would think) then they'll apply the same settings to any modem or other means of connecting... this is your ISP's policy...

as with any service ....if you don't like their rules....pack your stuff and switch ISP's

there is no line that says that they may not give you any information


again, you pay for the internet connection, you payed for the modem,


PAYED for the modem, means the modem is yours, not theirs.

what means there is no such thing as policy that forbids them to give you the username and password.
they say that because 90% that work in Optus are from india, china, vietnam, ect ect, not knowing how to speak correctly, a most of all don't have a clue how to do their job, so the only thing they can say is, read the policy what doesn't exist

2. to get that info just phone Cisco

if Cisco give you the info which is by the old info form before 2007

user: admin
password: W2402

to log on to http://192.168.100.1/_aslvl.asp

then changing the access level to level 3 to gain all options

retype the user and pass

and that should work,

Original Cisco product work by these info, if you can not get in even then, because Optus changed the info,
you can only threat them by taking it to court for violating the terms of copyright and so on, since only Cisco are allowed to
change the info,

I my self am having problems with optus for overcharging every bill every month, and after the "promise" up to 20 Mbit/s is actually avg. 2 Mbit/s

and with every modem they provide i'm having the same problem again and again with no access to the modem options which is rightfully yours and mine

my final conclusion is that everyone should start not only complaining but acting on your behalf for what is your right

this is the same as you buy an apple but that apple isn't yours
