okay, i tried to leave it overnight, but when i went to see it in the morning the whole computer was switched off completely. This happened once during the day a couple days ago where it just turned off in the middle of me doing something (maybe it overheated) and that time when i tried to turn it on again it gave me a fatal system error.

Im wondering if maybe there's more than just spyware wrong with the laptop. i hope not but i have no idea. any advice?

Let's try another approach.

Download Silent Runners and unzip it into it's own folder.

Run SilentRunners.vbs.
If your antivirus complains, tell it to allow this script.

Copy and paste the content of the Silent Runners textfile you get afterwards in your next reply.

Regards,

Download and Save Spywadfix to your computer from this link:
http://www.thespykil...s/spywadfix.exe

Copy the part in bold below into notepad and save it as remstra.reg

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"d002RPNpW"=-

Now reboot into safe mode and doubleclic the file we made.
Confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Then doubleclick spywadfix.exe
It will automatically extract to c:\spywad where it needs to be to run and will automatically open the remove spywad.vbs script for you ready to paste in the line mentioned below.
If you have script blocking enabled you will get a warning about a malicious script wanting to run. Please allow this script to run.

It will open an Input box. Paste this line into the box
C:\WINDOWS\system32\aw3dss.exe

The script will kill that process, backup and then delete any matching files in System32 and your Windows Directory. It will create a log of all files deleted. This log file will be named Spywad.txt and be located inside the C:\Spywad Folder. The backups will also be located in two subfolders there. One named Systems and the other named Window.

The script will search the Windows Directory and delete desktop.html and popup.html if they exist. It will add entries to the log if these files are found and deleted.

It will then kill Explorer. You will lose your taskbar and desktop. It will repair the registry entries returning your windows default desktop and context menu functions.
It will restart Explorer.

Boot back to normal and post a HijackThis log and the Spywad.txt

Regards,

okay so i was following your simple instructions and i got up to the part where i put in C:\WINDOWS\system32\aw3dss.exe into the input box when my computer suddenly turned off by itself. Its been doing that alot lately, i dont know why!

Now im sure this had messed up what was trying to be done, because when i turned the comp back on a while later (because it wouldnt turn on again straight away) i tried again but ofcourse the actual file managed to get deleted, i just dont think all the other stuff that was suppossed to happen got done because there's no log.

So currently in the spwad folder there is:
pv.exe
Remove Spywad.vb
Other Profiles Regfix.vb
Systems folder with Backupaw3dss in it
Window folder which is empty

Here's my latest HiJackThis log anyway:

Well, you did manage to get rid of that silly startup, which was our ultimate goal for this excercise.

Check in the Control Panel > Adminstrative Tools > Event Viewer > Logs

Check if you can find any errors or warnings that appear just before your computer shut down.

Can you try and tell me as specifically as possible which programs are missing and when you noticed they were gone (after doing what?)

hmm, they disappeared a while ago, but it was already after i started having problems with my computer so im not sure exactly what happened. i just started the computer one time and only my network buttons and msn messenger were showing up.

before that i think, ATI (my desktop settings controller), getright (download prgram), AOL tray icon and nokia program tray icon used to appear.

a few days ago ATI started appearing again. And AVG virus scanner and ewido security appeared since i installed them after trouble started.

i wasnt sure that the tray not loading was a big problem or not because the comp was acting up even before that happened.

I just realised you were talking about the silly startup being that aw3dss file that was loading at startup and not about my system tray at all. lol. now i feel stupid.

No reason to feel stupid.
When I'm unclear, that's my english and not your reading. :tazz:

I'm afraid the unexpected dropouts are a hardware problem.

AOL and the Nokia program are running and all the necessary VAIO drivers are getting started.

Nothing in the HijackThis log and nothing in SilentRunners.

You could try RootkitRevealer: http://www.sysintern...kitreveal.shtml but I don't expect it to find something.
