hi all,

I hope somebody can help me with this. I've been having some trouble with our fairly new (less than a year old) desktop computer. A few days ago, right after start up, I noticed the mouse getting "sluggish" not moving at all for a few seconds, then will move again then after a few minutes, it goes like that again. I opened up the Task Manager just to check the CPU usage and I noticed that it sometimes goes up to 50% even when I'm not using any softwares or programs. The weird thing about it is it doesn't consistently do that, some days it runs very smoothly, some days it's like that.

I've run Avast, Superanti spyware, Spybot Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes' Anti-malware. None detected. I've also used Error-Check, no errors detected. Any thoughts?

I'm using Windows XP SP2. Computer Specs: Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600@ 2.40Ghz, 2GB Ram, Nvidia GeForce 8500GT 512 RAM.

Hope someone would be able to help me. It took me quite a while to type this coz it keeps lagging. :)

What process(es) is listed as the biggest CPU user?
Is the computer still under warranty?

as of now, I'm trying to convert some .avi files to mp4 using Videora, it's the most cpu usage at around 103,000K. Firefox sometimes at 63,000K. Explorer.exe at around 30,000k

I think it is still under warranty but I can't find my receipt already.

No. You need to look under CPU column, not "Memory" column.
As for the warranty, contact your computer maker. They'll know, when the computer was purchased.

All CPU numbers are 00 except for System Idle Process which is 99. I bought it March 14, 2008.

That's how it should be. System Idle Process indicates what portion of CPU is NOT used. Only 1% of CPU is in use at this moment.

I opened convertXtoDVD now, so far it's not lagging, the CPU is around 55 for it.

So far it's working fine now, it doesn't "lag" consistently. Do I need to post an hijackthis file to be sure?

Those media programs normally use a lot of resources, so I'd say, CPU usage is rather normal.

Going through malware steps never hurts.

my computer hanged and I needed to restart it again.

I run speedfan now, this is the temp, GPU 53C, Temp1 42C, Temp2 33C, Temp3 -2C, HD0 43C, HD1 43C, Core 0 44C, Core 1 45C, Core 2 39C. Are these ok?

Do I post the hijackthis file here or do I need to make a separate topic on it?

This is the hijack this file (just in case) :) :

hi broni,

just want to update you. It turns out that the fan of the cpu is loose, I brought it to the computer shop since it is still under warranty. Thanks again for your help. Please do locked this thread, since everything's ok now. :)
