Hello,

I have tried all the general approaches, as well as read through several other people's posts of woes here, but I have not been able to get all of the symptoms of this trojan to go away. My browser still goes to quicknavigate.com when I open it. Please help in any way possible.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click 'Kill process' for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check):

Check and fix in HijackThis:

Restart and see if it comes back. If not, then:

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

Uh oh...

I tried removing that last item, but it came back after rebooting. I tried removing it in safe mode too but no luck. Things seem to be running fine, although spybot s&d keeps informing me of the changes that were made regarding quicknavigate.com being removed every time it boots up. I had to tell it to remember the decision in order to stop the popups.

TeaTimer must be blocking it. Before you fix it again, make sure that Spybot's TeaTimer program is closed. Now check and fix this in HijackThis:

Hmm... that's odd. After returning from sleep mode to check this forum, spybot asked me if removing that item was okay. I allowed it, and now it's gone. I don't know why it wasn't just gone in the first place, but all appears to be well now.
