Chattering Floppy drive

Each time I starrt my E-machines 300-k, it goes through the boot process ok, but when Windows 98 is loading, after all the desktop icons are present, it looks for my scanner. When the indicator gets to 75% my system tries to access my floppy drive about 30 times in rapid succession, then continues on and I have no problem.

I have inserted a disk into the floppy because I am leary of it getting worn out by this action, and this stops the chattering from happening.

Can you figure what is causing this? suggest a cure?

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
