Does Kaspersky have a "Training mode" (or "Interactive mode")? If so, try enabling it then proceed to attempt to enable your firewire connection. If Kaspersky is blocking it, it should notify you and give you the option to allow/deny. This would hopefully create the appropriate rule and allow future access -- in theory.
This really is quite ridiculous -- it shouldn't be this difficult to get your security software functioning the way you want it to; I don't suppose you can still get a refund?
Hi Dan,
It doesn't seem like they have any modes like that at all. There's just basic install and advanced, this is basic if you can believe it. Their manual on the CD doesn't cover any of this. It's been a huge amount of trial and error, though I have after 3 weeks figured out what blocks the firewire completely: check the properties tab on 1394, kaspersky likes to default install some sort of anti-virus there. Uninstall that and suddenly you will have 1394 listed in your network connection. however, no guarantee that will work lol
hehe, I wish. We actually tried when we thought the disc was faulty (note, ours is scratched quite 'nicely' on the bottom) and had a bad experience at Future Shop saying they don't take back liscensed software. They wouldn't even replace it. Overall, like you said, this whole thing is quite ridiculous.
But a great big thanks to all who helped, it looks like its all finally working
Lisa
