Hello,

I get the following when booting up a Win 2000 computer

Windows could not start because \Winnt\System32\Config\System.ced is missing or corrupt

I have tired the MS KB article which tells me to do the following.

At the Recovery Console command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after you type each command:
cd system32\config
ren system system.old
ren system.alt systemalt.old

To copy the default System hive, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
copy c:\winnt\repair\system c:\winnt\system32\config

However when i get to "ren system system.old" it tells me the system cannot find the file or directory

Has anyone got a fix?

Thanks

try just copying the files if it can't find the old versions...
copy c:\winnt\repair\system c:\winnt\system32\config
