Hi. My name is Patrick and I'm new here. I'll jump straight to the point. I recently was infected with a virus. It's one that's been around for a while. My computer comes up with ads saying my computer neds to be checked by Antivirus XP Pro 2009. Now, this is obviously a steaming pile of Bolshevic so I run McCaffee (sp?) to shut it down. Well, the "XP virus" (what I know it as) shuts down McCaffee before it can ever do anything, even in safe mode. So my computer savvy friend comes over and tells me to run a scan with AVG Free. I've had it in the past and have nothing but good things to say about it. Only reason I didn't put it on my current computer is I inhereited my newest computer and McCaffee seemed to be working fine. So I proceed to run AVG. Turns out the computer I inhereited is chock full of trojans, trackers and the such. It effectively deletes all the viruses but automatically proceeds to restart. This is where the trouble starts. I try to log in after the restart. I log in and immediately log back out. I try again but fail. I klnow a little about computers so I try in safe mode (with networking and with prompt). Still locked out. I did a little research on the web but nobody seems to have come to the log in log out loop the same way I have. I am wondering if there is a way to be able to log in again. I have already tried a couple methods, including connecting to the computer through a network (I don't remember the name of the computer though) and going through Windows recovery and copying the userinit.exe and wsaupdater.exe file. Both didn't work or don't exist. I have an XP disk so I can use system recovery and the such.
Long story short, I get logged out when I log in. Can somebody help?
