xp restarting when user signs in!

i have a slight problem.

i sign in with a user and do stuff on that user for a while. then later i sign out properly and sign in on antoher user but after i put in the password it restarts. i definetley know that i am not putting in the wrong password.
any help anybody, preffably someone who knows what they are really doing
