I'm planning on reformatting my hard drive ... I'm wondering if there is any way to keep all my current programs + files without burning them to a CD, as this computer lacks a CD burner.

Reformatting will erase all the info from your hard drive. So, if you want to backup and keep some or all of the data, you'll need to transfer it to some other media. Either CD's, another hard drive, tape backup, a Zip disk, network drive, etc.
