For several weeks, we have had a problem with a Common folder containing helper files opening at reboot. In addition, we are frequently getting kicked out of IE. I have been through the Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide and performed all those steps. (On the OTListIt2 step, I did not tell it to 'Run Fix', since the instructions did not specifically say to do that - hope that is okay.)

I have seen two topics dealing with helper files. The fixes are not the same. So, do I just do what was done on the most current topic and go with it? A concern is that the Cleaning Guide specifically says not to run Combofix unless told to by a technician, so I was a little hesitant to do that. Also, that topic uses HiJackThis, while the Cleaning Guide uses the OTListIt2. (And, unfortunately, I did not turn off wrap in Notepad before going through the Cleaning Guide, so my logs may not be particularly useful.)

Anyway, please give me some direction on fixing this problem. Thank you ever so much.
