I'm about to build a new i7 system. That's what I'm currently planing to buy:

- Intel i7 920, 2.66GHz, 4.8GT/s QPI, 8MB Cache
- Gigabyte EX58-UD4, Intel X58 Express, S1366, PCI-E 2.0x16, DDR3 1333, SATA 3Gb/s, SATA RAID, ATX
- 650W Be Quiet Dark Power PRO
- Antec p182 / Antec Sonata III (unsure)
- Noctua CPU-Cooler NH-U12P SE1366 - Sockel 1366
- Gigabyte Technology Radeon HD 4850 1GB DDR3 (GV-R485MC-1GI) passively cooled
- Kingston HyperX 3x2GB, DDR3-1600, CL8-8-8-24

Main priority is having it running really quiet (maybe even overclocked?).

What do you think of it? Any possible improvements? Opinions?

Welcome to Geeks To Go

My name is Cbarnard

I hope I may be of some assistance:

Lets check this out.

Intel i7 920, 2.66GHz, 4.8GT/s QPI, 8MB Cache

This is good

- Gigabyte EX58-UD4, Intel X58 Express, S1366, PCI-E 2.0x16, DDR3 1333, SATA 3Gb/s, SATA RAID, ATX
This is also good

- 650W Be Quiet Dark Power PRO

I would usually advise a 750 to an 850 min. for the purpose of future expansion, but it seems like you have limited this system. So it is probably going to work fine for you

- Antec p182 / Antec Sonata III (unsure)

I would look into the Antec 1200 excellent cooling (200mm fan) with contollers and the looks are very nice

- Noctua CPU-Cooler NH-U12P SE1366 - Sockel 1366

This should help keep things cool

- Gigabyte Technology Radeon HD 4850 1GB DDR3 (GV-R485MC-1GI) passively cooled

This will help keep things quiet, but it will heat things up a bit (you better have good cooling overall)

- Kingston HyperX 3x2GB, DDR3-1600, CL8-8-8-24

Ram speed is more than necessary other wise look for DDR-3 1333

I don't know if I would over clock this system... If you want it quiet

Oc'ing creates more heat than normal, If you can provide good cooling this won't be a problem.

I hope some of this information helps you, It is late and I need to get to bed...

If you need more assistance or would like me to explain something more to you I would be happy to do so.

Good Luck
