Vaio media centre connection to TV

My Sony Vaio computer had to be restarted back to factory condition. I therefore lost everything saved on it. I am now trying to reconnect the media centre to the tv so that I can access tv program guide and record on to the Vaio hard drive.
I went to 'Set up TV' and followed the instructions until I came to the page asking me to select a TV signal. It wants me to put in a channel number but no-one from Vaio or Sky can tell me what channel number to enter.
Can anyone help?
