HP Pavilion ZE4500 Laptop Screen is Dark

I was working on my laptop ( HP Pavilion ZE4500) and my screen went dark on me
It boots up fine but my screen is so dark that I can barley make out what is on it
When I got home I hooked up my desktop monitor to it and it was the same thing
My battery is no good so I run it off my ac adapter
Could my ac adapter be going bad?
Could the video broad be going bad?
Please Help Me Out
