I am having trouble removing Spyware/Adware etc. from PC. Running WinXP Home Edition and Internet Explorer.

I followed the previous instructions leading up to this step however, I was only able to run AdAware in safemode. I removed 400 plus objects but the program had indicated it was 287 days old. I also used cwshredder and cwservice and completed as directed.

I completed an online virus scan and deleted the viruses found. 5 deleted.

I repeated the Adaware/Antispyware/Virus scans with the hard drive set as a slave and was able to clean out to some degree.

When I reboot (HD back to master and on its own), the system continues to be extremely sluggish. For example when I click on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop it takes a very, very long time to open. When I try to run AdAware, AntiSpyware, etc. they will not open - hour glass is visble for a few seconds then disappears. I uninstalled and re-installed the programs but they still wouldn't run. Used Start-Run etc. but still did not work.

I tried to uninstall Norton Antivirus 2004 through Control Panel - Add/Remove but it would not work, although other programs would uninstall using this method. It seems as though any programs related to viruses, AdWare, Spyware etc are blocked from functioning properly.

I have pretty much reached the stage of reformatting and reinstalling Windows but would like to avoid this if possible. I would appreciate any help you are able to provide. Thank you very much.
