I have cruised your site looking for where to start, still not sure if I am right.

Dell laptop Latitude E6400

Last night I was working in Microsoft office 2007 Word, got stuck (mental not Hardware) and switched to play a little spider solitaire. Went to go back to Word and the screen locked up, the openng box for word was as far as it got; I could only use the mouse. Ctrl, Alt, delete nothing. Attempted to restart and it stops at the welcome screen. It will run in the safe made but i am unable to get online. Thank God for the wifes computer.

When I try run word in the safe mode I cannot open a saved file, the virus scan holds it up.

I was not online when it hit the fan.

I ran the things on the malware page except for the part that sets a restart point, Didn't know if I wanted to reset from a bad point.

no...not really ...just don't do any hard shut downs ...if you start having lots of hard drive issues you may want to consider getting a new drive,,,
