i recently had to restore my computer to factory settings and now i cannot connect to my wireless home internet. the computer says "this computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured". but it is a laptop and worked before. i downloaded the driver from the gateway website and installed it but still nothing...now i have come to conclusion that the internal wireless networking device/adapter is not being detected, or isnt turned on?

please help!

Most laptops have a way to turn the wireless adapter on/off with a key combination usually involving the Function (Fn) key and one of the Fnumbered buttons on the top. If you can figure out the key combination, try that and see if it helps. If you can't figure it out, provide the make/model of the laptop and someone may know it.

I'm assuming you checked in Device Manager to see that the adapter isn't disabled for some reason. If not, check there as well.

Hello jarbarmartar, welcome to GeeksToGo. Please do the following to determine if your network card is detected by the system and installed properly:

Check Device Manager
  • Click Start
  • Right-Click My Computer
  • Click Properties
  • Click the Hardware tab
  • Click the Device Manager button
  • Expand the Network adapters group
Do you see a wireless adapter there? Does it have a red X? If you don't see it there do you have a Unknown or Other Devices group (Would have items with a yellow exclamation point infront of them)? What's in there if anything?
