From here: http://www.seagate.c...ols/seatooldreg

We have to make sure that your hard disk is okay.
Download Seatools For DOS from here: http://www.seagate.c...ols/seatooldreg
Download the ISO CD-ROM Image EN. Burn it to a disc with BurnCDCC which you can get from here: http://www.terabyteu...ee-software.htm

Boot from the disc and run the diagnostics. Here is a tutorial: http://seagate.custk...sp?DocId=201271

where do i download this : ISO CD-ROM Image EN

nvm

Choose the whole file. The file is a disc image (.iso) file. Winrar sometimes associates itself with those files. When you click on browse...
Choose SeaToolsDOS213bEURO.iso

it gives me an error.

Describe it.

Any SATA hard drive will work. The size depends on how much storage you would like to pay for.
Check out newegg.com and tigerdirect.com for SATA hard drive prices.

You will need a new hard drive. A SATA one will do as stated above. If you need data recovered from the drive, you will need to take it to a professional data recovery service.

Here are some good ones:

If you don't need that much storage space this one is good:
