i cant seem to find a way to get round this.

in IE7 i could have, say, 4 tabs open TAB1 . . . TAB2 . . . TAB3 . . . TAB4

if i was on TAB2 and i opened a new tab then the new tab would open to the right of TAB2, so the order would be:
TAB1 . . . TAB2 . . . TAB5 . . . TAB3 . . . TAB4

however, under IE8, the new tab will open at the far right, no matter what tab i am in, so under IE8 the order is:
TAB1 . . . TAB2 . . . TAB3 . . . TAB4 . . . TAB5

which personally i find quite annoying.

is there a way i can get back to the old IE7 method (without uninstalling IE8)?

I believe what you are referring to is called "tab grouping" in IE8. This feature did transfer over from IE7, so you should be able to run it no problem without reverting to IE7.

If you go under Tools>Internet Options> Tab Settings(near the bottom of the window)

Then click the box next to "Enable Tab Groups."

Now restart IE, and it should work!

Let me know if you have any problems.
