Sure its a laptop running 512 ram ad sure got it in 2003 but start up scripts literally take 5 minutes to load. come on!!

This could just be caused by normal reasons.

• Life of the computer.
• Ram size.
• Disk space filled up.
• Too many programs.

Give me an Everest report anyhow, by going here and following the instructions.

Please check and do the following in addition to the above instructions:

1: Check how full the partitions of the hard disk are. Please report size and free space on each of them.

2: hard disk operating mode. Go to Contro Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager. Click IDE ATA/ATAPI controller. Right-click each of the Primary and secondary channels and uninstall them. Reboot the computer and let it install the drivers again.

3: Defrag page files. Download PageDefrag from the links below. Install the program and choose to defrag on next boot. Reboot and let the process run.

Minimum memory to run XP Pro with SP3
HD space is very close to the minimum XP will work in.

If you ask about the IDE drivers, then no harm will be done. During reboot windows will install them afresh. It's quite a common problem that ,for a number of reasons, IDE operation mode is changed by windows from DMA to PIO, which cause a huge drop in performence. Uninstall and reboot force windows to reinstall them correctly.

Regarding the Everest report: presently tou have about 20% of the disk empty, which is reasonable. The RAM in your computer is limited in capacity and speed but that shouldn't cause such a slow down as described.

Artello's instructions are aimed to demonstrate that low performance can result from causes other then malware. That, of course, doesn't exclude the option that your computer is infected. Please scan your computer with a good antivirus and antispyware. If you have a firewall other then Microsoft's uninstall it and see if it makes any difference.

When was the last time you cleaned the drive of cookies and temp files? Use ATF Cleaner.Under Main choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button.If you use Firefox, Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button. If you use Opera, Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button.

When was the last time you defragged the hard drive? Use JK Defrag in my signature.

Try those and lets see. You may also have to many items trying to start and run in the background.

Run MBAM after you update it.
