My laptop screen is displaying very noisy, difficult to see, patchy, pixelated images. It starts from when I first turn the computer on. I don't know how else to describe it. My operating system is windows xp pro. Could this be a hardware issue or a software issue? What would I need to change? Please see images:

Try updating your Graphic's drivers, go to your Laptop makers web site and get the latest Graphics driver and reinstall, looking at the rings in the top left corner of your screen in your first picture it looks like graphics fault so try driver first.

Also if you have access to a Monitor (screen) try connecting it to the VGA socket on you laptop which will by pass your screen, if it is still the same you know its not your screen.

Well I tried connecting my laptop to an external monitor and the image/display is clear. No problems whatsoever. What does this mean? Has my LCD gone bad? Would it be cheaper to buy a new laptop or to repair the lcd if that is what has gone bad?
