You should have a drivers disk that came with the MOBO. On that disk will be your MOBO chipset driver.
This is your chipset informatio
Motherboard Chipset Intel Lakeport-G i945G

Just a fYI
System Memory 512 MB (DDR2-533 DDR2 SDRAM)
You have minimum amount of memory to run XP with.

Go HERE and run the Crucial online scanner.
This will give you the exact memory configuration for your system. You do not have to buy the memory from there, but write down the information and if you need assistance in purchasing the upgrade memory GTG can assist with suggestions also.

Your friend did not install the chipset drivers for the main board.
This will be a test to see whether Rshaffer61 gets them before me. Welcome aboard rshaffer61.

Now to see what I can find.

rshaffer61 beat me to it.

If you have the drivers disk this will be alot easier. If not we can find them on the internet.

I already found it but the problem is which MOBO?
I don't want to install the wrong one for the MOBO and Everest doesn't show the MOBO name. Let's try this:

Download SIW from HERE and get the Standalone English version
It will install itself snad when finished
Then Click on SIW Icon to run program
On the left side click on Motherboard and then on the right, copy and paste the information in your next reply

Go HERE and fill in the drop down menu's.
This will get you to the download for your chipset. Download it and install it.
You will probably have to reboot so do that.
Once rebooted let us know how everything is working then

Thanks Runner123 and as always it is a honor to assist with you. :) :)

You beat me to it again. You type faster than me.

sarahs,

Are your windows updates up to the latest? Specifically are you running at least service pack 2?
I am not 100% sure, but you do not get USB 2.0 until SP 2 is installed.

Go to start....and right click on my computer. Choose properties from the download list. In there it will tell you what you have. Please tell us what is under system, and you might as well tell us what is under computer also.

Well its not a Service pack issue. back to basics.

1. Are there any other ? or ! in device manager?
2. Have you tried plugging the camera in to another USB port? This will possibly eliminate a bad port.
3. Can you try another USB device in the ports? Such as a flash drive.

The USB might be turned off in the bios. This has been brought up as possibilities in other posts.

Lets see where that gets us, while I think some more.

While i was in device manager i noticed SM Bus Controller is not installed and has a yellow ? next to it, i tried 2 install it but it said it cannot find the software as with the webcam, im not sure what this is but could this be anything to do with it?

Ya this may be the reason why the OS is not communicating with the Camera. As a quick fix see if you can get back into device manager, go to where you saw the 'SM Bus Controller' right click on it and select update driver, let it search the web for the driver. Hopefully it'll find the necessary driver for you automatically otherwise youl have to specify where to find it in which case youl have to download it from Intel's site.
