Hello,

The hard drive on my IBM T42 went bad. I replaced the drive and loaded Windows + all necessary drivers from IBM.com, however I am unable to get the wireless adapter working correctly. I have downloaded the wireless drivers and I have followed the instructions to get them loaded but without any luck. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Let's begin by seeing if any hardware is missing a driver.

1. Right Click on My Computer.
2. Select Manage.
3. Click on Device Manager.
4. Check and see if there are any Unknown or Other devices (marked by yellow exclamation points)

Follow these steps please -

Let's look up the unknown devices by using the Vendor/Device ID.

  • Navigate to the items with the yellow exclamation point.
  • Right-Click on them and select 'Properties'.
  • Click on the 'Details' tab. Read the line that begins with PCI\VEN and tell me what the digits/characters are after VEN_ and DEV_.

For Example, my network adapter details are 'PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_100E&blahblahblah'

I need the information in red from these two unknown devices (Network Adapter and Unknown) in your next post.

That device is an Intel Wireless 2200BG adapter. I am having difficulty finding it on the IBM website though. Do you have a link to the page you used to download the other drivers?
