This has been happening for awhile, but just got worse. Whenever applications freeze up and I try to close/end them, neither the window nor the process disappears. The only way to get rid of it is restart, which usually doesn't work and I am forced to shut the power off. I've seen this problem other places, so I'm sure it won't be a problem for you guys. Btw, I recently had that "A000476.exe" or w/e virus, and got rid of it with avast.

This could still possibly be malware related. Why not have our experts just have a look and be sure your clean? If afterward the problem still exists, you can come back here and we'll try and sort it out.

Go to the Malware Forum and read the stickies located at the top, especially this one.
The guides will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. Then you can post a OTL log in THAT forum. Be patient, the Malware Forum is a very busy place and a two or three day wait is not unusual. Only after a three day wait may you move to The Waiting Room where you will be on the top of the list to be helped. A three day wait is 72 hours.. Make sure it has been over that amount of time, or your Waiting Room topic will be closed.

Hopefully you get your problem solved.. otherwise we'll see you then.
-Jason

Edit: As I see your malware topic has been posted already, you can move to The Waiting Room, where you'll be first in line to be helped.
