Cannot Install CD-rom Drivers

On my mothers notebook her disk drive is no longer recognized. checked device manager and i cannot install the driver to get the drive recognized. also plugged in an external cd-rom and that could not be recognized as well. i/d appreciate any help to figure out this issue. thanks!

CD ROM doesn't need any extra drivers.
What does Device Manager say about the drive?
