TFC does not work - Malware Removal Guide

hey guys, i have used the malware removal guide on my other PC with success before, 'temporary file cleaner' in the guide does not work for me however. the screen goes blank yes, but stays that way, i waited a full two hours just in case it was taking longer than it should.

some info, i am using an ASUS Eee PC 2G Surf, reformatted to windows.

should i just use another temp file remover, or is this a symptom of something more?
