Just a quick question:

What specification features determine the compatibility of a processor and a motherboard?

The socket on the motherboard has to match the socket on the CPU. You should also make sure that the motherboard supports the CPU's FSB speed.

Realistically, yes.

If the processor fits, good.
If the board supports the processor, even better (BIOS update may be required).
If the two components work and work together, that's super.
If the rest of the bits work with the board, you're away cooking on gas.
