Can u System Repair OEM xp

Have this compaq presario 2500 laptop installed with OEM Xp home edition.
xp hangs before reaching login screen .
i can't do repair using the factory's own xp CD(4 of them) coz it does a reinstalltion rather then repair.

i have an winxp pro sp1. now the question is can i do repair on the OEM xp home edition installed by the manufacturer with my win xp pro sp1 CD?
