I was trying to eliminate a hidden file by changing folder viewing settings to display hidden files. In the process I must have done something else to really [bleep] up my system because now most of my programs are not opening. Pretty much the only program working is Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. I cannot open anything in the Control Panel, System Utilities, Restore, etc. When I check under properties, the links to the programs are correct but they just donàt run. Also, the icons for all these programs which are not running have defaulted to the "unkown" icon. Please help!

try using system restore to undo what you did, maybe that will get it working again.

Unfortunately, System Restore is one of the applications that will not run.
