The system that I am working with operates on XP. Someone sat down at the computer and clicked an update. From that point we could not get on the internet. Even thought my wirless card shows connected, the browser page pulls up completely blank, and there is nothing in that top bar that titles the sites your own (blue bar at the every top). I did a system restore, and still the same thing. When I try to access "internet options" through the "control panel" the icon is shadowed with on icon discription and will not let me access it at all.

Hello hello,

You are using internet explorer correct? Which version are you running?
In IE press ALT(button) > Help > About Internet Explorer.

Have you tried another browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome? It may be difficult to download them if you can't access the internet, but you could download it and transfer it onto a flash drive or CD. You can download Firefox from my signature, it is a safer and faster browser.

Click and navigate to: START > RUN
In the search bar, type or copy and paste the following, without quotes: "iexplore.exe -extoff"
Click OK.

This will run Internet Explorer without add-ons. It is possible a disrupted or infected add-on could be causing this. Can you access the internet this way?

Next try:
Click and navigate to: START > RUN
In the search bar, type or copy and paste the following, without quotes: "devmgmt.msc"
Look for any yellow exclamations (!) or red ex's (x). If you find any, say so.
Expand the "Network Adaptor" menu, and right click your Wireless Card. (Could you also list specs on what you have?)
Choose Properties.
In the Driver tab, choose Update Driver. Report back any updates, or if there weren't any.

Also give some basic specs about your computer(e.g. Laptop or Desktop, Make/Model)

"internet options" through the "control panel" the icon is shadowed with on icon discription

Could you go into more detail with this?? Which icon - and what description? Post a screenshot if you want - if you don't know how, read this.

Hope this helps(and if not, we won't stop there!) :)
