windows do not fully start up

I have a dell laptop and it will not fully booth up. It goes thru the process and gets to the window/user screen and when I click on the user it just sits on next screen vostro and does not go any further.

I have tried doing a system recovery and it does nothing.

Any suggestions.

How about Safe Mode?

Restart your PC.
On the very first logo screen(before Windows) hold or repeatedly press F8 until the Advanced Menu appears.
Try Safe Mode first, and if not - try Last Known Good Configuration.
