Hi All, my first post.

Have just upgraded from ADSL 512 kbps to ADSL2+ with theoretical maximum of 24 Mbps and have been disappointed that the speed increase has not been dramatic. ISP is Netspace, I have a Netgear GD834G modem with software downloaded this week, and I live 800 metres from Davey Exchange in Tasmania.

Ran ADSL2+ speed test with speedtest.net and got the following:
* Ping 76 ms
* Download Speed 2.34 Mb/s (Presume this is megabits per second)
* Upload Speed 0.66 Mb/s

Then repeated test with ozspeedtest.com as follows:
* Line Speed 2.33 Mbps
* Download Speed 291 KB/s (0.28MB/s) [which I calculate = 2.24 Mbps]

Third test with cnet.com.au gave line speed of 2265 Kbps (Calculate = 2.21 Mbps)

Remarkably consistent figures, but should not the download speed be substantially faster? Any help or guidance will be appreciated.

Thank You

Graeme

Have just upgraded from ADSL 512 kbps to ADSL2+

Do you mean you have upgraded your Internet plan (which would mean contacting the ISP)?

Correct, and they sent me the new Netgear modem and phoned to say that ADSL2+ had been enabled.

Cheers

Contract speed is "ADSL2+ download up to 20000kbps / upload up to 1000kbps."

Cheers
