Using Irfanview 4.23
Shooting video on a Cannon Powershot A480

When I download the files from the card onto my hard drive Windows puts the file icon as the normal play icon.
It labels the type as a video file
There is also a matching file with the same name that gets the extension .THM which is always very small
The "video file" plays fine in Windows media player, but when it comes up it lists the extension as .WMV
I have no idea what the .THM file is

My problem:

Irfanview will not play the "video file"
I get the error: Video not available cannot find 'vids:mjpg' decompressor.

I have tried and tried to solve this without pestering anyone but to no avail.
I have been to the Irfanview site and downloaded the "all in one package for plugins, and nothing.
Would appreciate any help. Any extra info needed I will post as requested.

Thank you,
Timbo428

It may be codec issue.
First, see, if VLC Player will work: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
It has all codecs built in.

Howdy:

As per the Ifranview websire FAQ'a..

Q: Generic problem with video files: If I try to play some AVIs, I get the error message "Video not available, cannot find XXX decompressor"!
A: The correct video codec is not installed, please check this site for the right codec (see in menu Image->Information for the codec name):
Free-Codecs.com
All Codecs and Decompressors
Codec-Download.com
www.FOURCC.org - Video Codec Definitions
Microsoft Codecs
VideoHelp.com
A good codec pack is the K-Lite Codec Pack, it contains the most popular video/audio codecs.

Broni: I downloaded VLC and it plays the files great. Do you know how to convert video files with that program? Thank you very much BTW!

Murry S: In my search to find a program to convert these files I turned up a thread that said the same thing. I downloaded the K-Lite Codec and it didn't solve the problem...

But all I need now is a program that will convert these that isn't a demo or trial version that all seem to suck...the ones I have found anyway. Broni??

Thank you guys for the quick response. This is one of the best help forums out there.

Thank you again

VLC is just a player.
For converting, try Any Video Converter: http://www.any-video...for_video_free/
Works for me...
