Having trouble connecting my xbox 360 to my home network

Hi, I've been trying to assin a static ip address to my xbox 360. After I manually enter a new ip address, subnet mask etc. the xbox 360 cannot connect to my home network. I have a D-Link router and I have tried opening ports on the router, but nothing has worked.
