i was told that it is okay to delete everything in the prefetch folder to help make your computer go a little faster.
what is the prefetch folder?
my computer/c drive/windows/prefetch
and can i safely delte the items inside to make my computer go faster and free up space?

You can delete the contents of prefetch, use search to locate then empty the folder. Note how many files you are clearing, check back after a reboot and you will find most of them back in the folder.

The only gain would be if you removed a prefetch file for a programme you had uninstalled.

You should avoid emptying too often.
