cd/dvd drive help ?

Hey,
Ive got XP and just installed a new LG dvd-ram drive. it when i put in an audio cd it reads it fine in itunes/ media player etc. but when i try to play any of the tracks or rip the music it just fails or crashes the media player. i am absolutly stumped as all my drivers are up to date and the installation was fine. any ideas would be much appreciated.
