System 32, Constant "open with", Error after error

Hi all

I think I am about to cry...

My computer (I believe) is infected due the 42+ pop-ups that CAN'T close. So I installed AVG Antivirus.

Since installing that, I am unable to open Firefox (it asks "open with"), I can only use IE (which I'm not a huge fan of to begin with)

I went to Control Panel to remove AVG and that is coming up with "System 32/rundll32.exe" Application cannot be found.

You'll have to excuse me but i'm not as fluent in "geek speak" but if someone could PLEASE help me... I don't want to upgrade MS Office if I am going to have to wipe the HD and start again.

I have been to the Malware guide but the computer won't open EXE files at all without asking "open with"
