Windows 2000 hang up at start up

Computer is hung up at the Windows 2000 loading screen, prior to this it would load then restart itself but again it is just hung up at the loading screen. I tried to start it in safe mode and use the last known config but still is hung up. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
