What is the make and model of that computer and what did you use for a re-install cd?

Acer, HP, Compaq, etc???

Original to what system? That one or a different one?

What do you know isn't yours?

try recovery consule. it actually pretty easy.

check here: support.microsoft.com/kb/307654

one you're in the console issue command: chkdsk /r
then it will detect and repair your HDD if there is/are any issue.

good luck I hope this helps.
