PC: HP Pavilion a1312n
OS: Windows 7 x86
My HD: WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA Hard Drive

Only when Im downloading a larger file my PC starts lagging up and sound starts cracking when playing a song in winamp any idea what might be the problem ? or how to fix it ?

EDIT: ... I just moved a song over to my other HD and it still crackling/but not as bad... could it be the sound card ?

Your computer sounds like it is using to much memory and processing both things at once makes the computer run slower.

Thus when you play the music with the amount of mem being used.
It will cackle.

:)
Hope that helps.
How many process's are you running and how much ram do you have.
Virus software also and web browser.

Does the song cackle when your not downloading?

The sound only gets messed up when Im downloading a file around 100 MB / any small file the PC runs just fine with no skips or lags with my music

I have 2 GIGs of memory and an NVidia Geforce 9500 video card if thats any useful information

Lets see.
The OS alone takes a good 1gig they say but I'd say 1.5 to 2 gigs.
I'd then toss in whatever virus software your using and the internet browser your using.

Your most likely using too much mem while downloading and playing the music.
Try down grading to 32x to use less mem,.

86x is better suited for people with 4+ gigs.

Hope that helps.

86 is equal to 32-bit isnt it ?

And im seeing its my CPU / is there anything I can do to fix it ? or would I have to just upgrade to a diff CPU

EDIT:

When i stop the download the CPU drops back down to 21% right away, and a song stops skipping right away

86 is = to 64 bit.
86 is just another way of saying it can handle more 32x applications.

Ahem*

Now that I've had my coffe.
Man I kinda feel stupid.

xD
It wasnt the ram but the CPU.
What kinda processor are you running?
And Have you ever thought about OCing?
