Sorry to disturb, hallo everybody.Desperate message from Milan, Italy. ;)
Yesterday I was infected by download.troyan (my PC is running Norton 2005, regularly - almost - updated):immediately Norton started screaming "VIRUS!VIRUS!", while apparently not able to eliminate the infected file (C:\WINDOWS\system32\req.dll).
Looking for advice I followed the step-by-step recommendations by Symantec - no way!!!- while the alarm message kept appearing on the screen:I was obliged to switch Norton off out of sheer desperation, but....Trend Micro scan on line says I have no infections, Adaware has found only the usual garbage, and Trojan Remover 6.3.9 again says I'm OK. Has NOrton gone mad? :tazz: Should I uninstall and reinstall it?

I have also run HiJackThis, and this is the result:

Hi aurador

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

]HijackThis is being run from a temporary folder; this means that any backups it creates as a result of fixes made with it will be lost. Please create a new folder for it and place the program into that new folder.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8E13DDE1-E013-47ec-9C4C-27C2F78BDD26} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\req.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: req - C:\WINDOWS\system32\req.dll

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes. Let the system reboot.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\req.dll
Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

O23 - Service: SymWMI Service (SymWSC) - Symantec Corporation -

C:\Programmi\File comuni\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe

The only remaining problem is that every time I run CWShredder (safe mode) it says that I have CWS.Msconfig :tazz: , CWShredder apparently fixes it but at the following check it's still there....should I worry? Is it possible to get rid of that thing?
many thanks for your help ;)

Hi aurador

Please search your system for the following file:c:\windows\system32\openme.htmIf found delete it.

Post a new HJT.log and run cwshreader in safemode to see if it detects CWS.Msconfig

Please don't post the same as your last one I just cant follow it.

;) Sorry Thatman, I simply forgot the language problem, of course my HJT will be totally incomprehensible to you, very stupid of me :tazz: ....I'll try on some local WEBsite, hoping in some help, and I'm really sorry I bothered you :) .By the way, I tried to find the file you showed me but could not find, I'll try again in safe mode. Thank you very much for your help, AND for your patience ;)

Hi aurador

Download and install EasyCleaner:
http://personal.inet...rts/ecleane.htm

After installing it check under Settings > Registry tab if the backup
option is checked and if the directory it points to exists.
This should be true by default, but check anyway.

Then click OK and click Registry
Then click Search. When it is done select all the items per color,
(most, if not all should be green) and click Remove.

Look for any malware name in the list if found delete them.

Reboot when you are done and let us know how it goes.

:) Hallo Thatman, I followed your advice, downloading EasyCleaner 2.0 .It detected and cancelled few unused registry keys, no malware. Trouble is that every time I run CWShredder in safe mode it still detects this CWSMsconfig, :tazz: but even though it fixes it, at the following control the same story begins. Maybe it's just a "false positive", a link to something that doesn't exist anymore, but it would be nice to know for sure... ;) Anyway, I'll take the weekend off, and for 2 days I won't think of infections-virus-malware-etc.etc.etc Happy weekend to you ;)
