Hi, thanks for any help!
F8 variant boot attempts do not work. Not even safe modes. A "normal" boot now ends with my XP default wallpaper. No tray, no icons, no activity when I right-click. I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, get into task manager, and can go a few places from there...

Explorer.exe is NOT loading in TaskMan. So all the good stock advice to download and run various anti-malware stuff is no help, when I can't yet save-to-desktop -- when there is no desktop, and as yet no way found to run executables (except "cmd", "notepad", "edit" et cetera, from DOS prompt).

I am on the net in the infected PC now, and do have an uninfected (I hope!) laptop I can use also, also with wideband access. (The 2 are on a LAN -- is that a problem? Can this desktop XP PC infect the laptop, which is running VISTA?)

I get to my iexplore browser using taskman. So web access is mine. I just have less control of my PC than, it seems, the hacker. Here is a "running Task" that I just closed:
"http://core.insighte...erID=150029 - Windows Internet Explorer"

Help MUCH appreciated!
