Hi, I'd like to thank whoever helps me with this in advance ;)

I was downloading some music from the net, using torrent p2p. And the file was just a zip... so I figured whatever i've seen songs in a zip before. Anyway inside the zip was an exe. I figured it was probably spyware or adware, but i've usually been able to check out other ppl's posts and get a general idea on how to remove it. I think i've completely removed a few things, but I can't get rid of some of them. I like to try to keep my comp clean and any help would be great. Any help is greatly appreciated!

P.S. This is my first post ever, on any website. :tazz: Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Jumpingaround and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I noticed that your HiJackthis.exe is on your desktop, make sure to save HijackThis in its own folder i.e. C:\HJT). DO NOT run it from within a zip manager (Winzip), as no backups will be saved.

You have a few randomonly named files on your system.
We like to start with an online virus and trojan scan. Even though you may have antivirus software on your system, it can become corrupted by malware.

Please run a free online virus scan at of these two sites:
HouseCall
PandaSoft

And a free trojan scan here:
Trojan Scan

Reboot your PC. If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and we'll remove what's left.

Hi,

Thank you for your quick reply Excal. I actually just decided to wipe my hard drive. I've got most of my stuff backed up anyway. I really appreciate your help and won't hesitate to post again. I was wondering if you could recommend any programs that I may not know about for adware/spyware protection. I currently use Lavasoft's Adaware, and Spybot S&D. Thanks for the tip on running online scans as well. Geeks to go is a great site, and I will recommend to all my friends. :tazz:

Sorry to hear that :tazz:

Well I do have some info for you and your more than welcomed for the help i have given you.

Now that your system is Malware Free, it is important to reset your system Restore. Click Here to learn how to.

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE

Spybot S&D

I also suggest that you dowload this free virus scanner from AVG:

AVG

The following free programs are great for prevention:

SpywareBlaster

Spywareguard

IE/Spyad

A Firewall is a must! Here are 2 good free versions:

Sygate

ZoneLabs

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox

Opera

This site
is a great source for tightening up security on Internet Explorer settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot
