Symptoms:
1) Adaware keeps finding 24-30 critical objects. Most are made of VX2 regkeys and regvalues. 1 file is labed Windows, Regdata. I remove and remove, and they keep coming back in the next scan.
2) In my task manager, there is a small program that takes up 152k memory when it first runs, then slowly over time will gain more and more. The name of the file randomly changes every time I end it, and instantly restarts as a new name. For example, it is now gsasmjx.exe, but once I end it, it will pop up again as dlexji.exe or something. It's always 7 letters long. gsasmjx.exe (or the other aliases) is located in windows\system32 (74kb big). And a GSASMJX.EXE-37FC1A6B.pf is in windowsPrefetch (11kb).
update: I ran Adaware again and it found 2 files unable to remove until reboot. After reboot, it seems like this mystery exe isn't running anymore. I doubt it's removed completely though.
3) Every couple minutes I get a popup named "aurora". It's a random ad for internet relationships or k-mart gift cards, etc. I immediately close it. I think this is associated with the VX2 bug.
What I have done:
1) ran Adaware again and again. It keeps detecting the 24-30 files. See above symptoms.
2) ran Spybot S&D. It finds a handful of files and deletes them. I don't think it can find VX2.
3) Downloaded Adaware's VX2 add-on and ran it. It doesn't detect the VX2 on my system
.3) ran PestControl. It is no help either.
4) Rebooted many times after running these programs. I still have the same symptoms. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
