Videocard won't work after sleep mode in vista

I recently built a new computer and everything was fine until vista went to sleep. Upon waking it up, everything was unresponsive except for the fans. after powering off and back on, motherboard would not post, so I removed graphics card and it posted, reseated Graphics card and plugged in power, no post.. what could be the problem, did sleep mode ruin my videocard!? also should I just disable sleep mode so this don't happen again?
