My dad has a Dell Inspiron 1501 and the sound has suddenly stopped working I have checked the following:-

1) Sound is not muted in sound icon by clock (vol 100)
2) In Volume mixer everything set at max
3) Device manager all sound devices working properly (check for driver updates)
4) Tested all playback devices (no sound)
5) Tried plugging ear phones into the earphone socked again no sound



The only thing I can think of (appart from throwing it out of the window) is last year he had a problem with the number key stopped working and from searching lots of forums I came accrossa key combination that fixed this. I was wondering/ hoping there was a similar solution for this one.

Any ideas. Im off to the pub now before my head explodes
