Dear geekstogo,

I have recently been infected by some crappy spyware/adware. Keeps redirecting my home page to about:blank. Also am getting many pop-ups referring me to sites selling spyware removal programs.

I have run Adaware, CW Shredder and Spybot S&D and have removed anything that these have found. Each time I run Adaware, the same three registry files appear with Attempted Browser Hijack.

Below is my hijack this:
Thanks is advance.

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

Your log is showing me that the updates have not been applied,

*Please go here (Microsoft website) using Internet Explorer ( not Firefox or any other browser as they won't work)
*Click on "Windows Validation Assistant"
*Click on the "Validate Now" button.
*Be patient while the ActiveX loads, do not click on any links.
*Read the instructions on this page while it's loading. You will be prompted to install - click YES.
*Enter your product key then click "continue"
*When it says "Validation Complete" please click "Continue to return to your previous activity"
*Copy what it says and paste it here.

If your having a problem downloading from the site go here
http://www.softpedia...Pack-SP1a.shtml
Download it manually and install it,

Dear Don77,

It is stating that my product key is invalid. I did get this product four years ago when XP Pro first came out from a legit source. The product key was written down and I have not had a problem with it up until now.

Any suggestions?

You need to contact the source for the product key. If this were a legit version the key would be installed on the system
I m sorry but I can not help you until this matter is resolved

The store from where I purchased this is no longer in existence. It was an internet company that went belly up. Is there no use trying to fix this virus without having this Windows update? Would you suggest that I purchase another XP Pro?

If this is the case, does it look like whatever I have on my computer is malicious enough for me to do this?

I am just looking for some guidance. I appreciate any help you can give me. I do keep some personal records on my machine. Do you think these are vulnerable and should be moved?

Thanks again in advance.

The system would be cleaned and you wouldn't last but 10 minutes on the net, until you are reinfected again,

See if there is anything Here That may give you some guidance,
