desktop background black

My desktop background is black, slightly a hint of red, have tried to change the picture but it stays black. Sometimes the picture comes back. What controls the picture in the background? Why won't it show the selected picture? Why is it black? I'm not very experienced.

Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.log we will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.
